Li-S Energy Secures $7.8 Million ARENA Grant to Accelerate
Advanced Australian Battery Manufacturing Facility

Li-S Energy is stepping into the future of Australian battery manufacturing.

We’re thrilled to announce that Li-S Energy has secured a $7.8M grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to accelerate the development of a next-generation lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery cell manufacturing facility.

This major milestone will support:

  • Manufacturing optimisation — advancing cathode, anode and cell stacking processes.
  • Feasibility studies for a staged Li-S gigafactory pathway scaling to 1 GWh per year – a 500× increase over our current 2 MWh Geelong line.
  • Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) to create a shovel-ready Australian Li-S manufacturing project.

Backed by the Australian Government and ARENA’s Advancing Renewables Program, this work positions Li-S Energy to progress toward large-scale domestic production of our lightweight, high-energy Li-S cells – delivering strategic benefits for defence, aerospace, drones, e-aviation and future mobility.

This grant marks a transformational step toward building a sovereign Li-S battery industry right here in Australia. The future is lighter, stronger, and made at home.
